What is Power Delivery? How does it work?

Power Delivery outlets are rapid chargers that can restore juice to your device in a fraction of the time standard outlets take.

Power Delivery outlets are also called USB PD or USB Type C Outlets. It works by amplifying the amount of power that can be transferred from an outlet to a device; then, it uses chip intelligence to determine a safe power level and charging speed for any device that’s plugged in. This chip technology is important for preventing battery overload.

What’s the difference between Power Delivery and standard outlet charging?

When using standard AC outlets, charging speed is typically limited by the power output (or how many watts the outlet can transfer at once). But with Power Delivery, the charging speed is determined by the capacity of your device’s battery.

Is Power Delivery the same as a fast charger?

Fast chargers are adapters made to be plugged into standard AC outlets. They usually use proprietary technology and are often made by manufacturers to be compatible with a single device (like the charger for Apple iPhones).
